10 Simple Steps to a Successful 1-Day Detox
by Jenna M. • Mar 29, 2017

A popular recommendation when adjusting your regimen to include healthier eating habits, is to start with a detox. This will help jumpstart your new lifestyle and cleanse your body of the not-so-healthy foods and drinks you were previously consuming.

But what’s the best detox? Options range from lemon water and other liquid-only plans to actual meals. As with most things, there isn’t a one solution only with a detox, but we think a combination of liquids and foods is the best approach. This will help you feel good while you cleanse, and prep your body for a healthier lifestyle.

Below is our 1 day detox plan breakdown that we believe to be a great starting point. It includes food, drinks, exercise and other beneficial tips. There are many great options for detox drinks and foods, but make sure to consult a registered dietician or physician prior to starting any significant detox regimens.

Start Your Morning

1Start the day with tea: Drinking a detox tea in the morning will help begin the cleansing process. Make a delicious homemade tea with spices like this Ginger Detox Tea

2Make time for fitness: Try a light morning fitness routine like yoga to get your blood flowing. This will help you wake up and stay energized throughout the day. Don’t forget to stretch!

3Enjoy a smoothie: Drinking a smoothie full of fruits and vegetables will provide your body with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. This Berry Cherry Protein Smoothie includes a secret ingredient that’s known for its cleansing properties that’s not found in most smoothies.

Kickstart Your Afternoon

4Munch on a salad: Like the morning smoothie, eating a salad for lunch that’s packed with low-sugar fruits and/or vegetables will help you feel satisfied while giving your body even more nutrients. Try this Superfood Kale & Blueberry Salad for a delicious and crunchy lunch.

5Pack a snack: If an afternoon slump hits, skip the coffee and opt for green tea instead. If you’re hungry, add an apple or a serving of almonds.

All Day Reminders

6Move often: Try to get up every hour and walk around for at least a few minutes, and stretch whenever possible. This is especially important if you work an office job or live a fairly sedentary lifestyle. As with the morning yoga routine, these movements will help keep your blood flowing.

7Hydrate: Drink a glass of water (or more) every hour. Add lemon and/or other fruits and vegetables for added benefit.

Wind Down Your Evening

8Sit down and eat: Enjoy a light dinner with your family. A simple soup full of detoxifying vegetables is all you need to satisfy your tummy. We recommend this Roasted Carrot & Butternut Squash Soup.

9Relax: Ditch the screens for one evening and spend that extra time reading, taking a bath, putting on a face mask or something else that brings you a sense of calm. This will set you up for a better night’s sleep.

10Snooze: Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep. This will help your body recover from the day and prepare for what comes next: a healthier you!
