What is The Difference Between All the Different Strains of Probiotics?

Question: What is the difference between all of the different strains of probiotics?  Different brands claim to have different kinds of bacteria in them.  Are some better than others?  There is also a wide range of the number of organisms in each capsule - some claim a couple billion while some claim 60+ billion.

This question is a lot like asking the difference between all the different fruits in the produce section... they are all different species of plants that have different tastes, nutrients and benefits. With probiotics, the same holds true: each strain has a specific benefit and a specific set of nutrients that it helps the body to absorb.

One cannot say any of them are “better” or “worse” just like an apple is no better or worse than an orange. They simply have different benefits and uses. That’s one big reason that many people like to take a variety of strains so they can get a broader range of digestive and immune health support.
